Okay, so in my last post I wrote about 2010 being a boring year and hoping that 2011 would be better. Well, 2010 was not boring! On December 31st, the very last day of the year, Landon surprised me by driving down the Florida and proposing to me! Here is the story...
It was the first time in two years that all of my family had been together in one place. We all thought it would be a good idea to get some new family pictures taken. My sister suggested the beach, and I thought it was a great idea since we live in Florida and have never taken pictures on the beach. We all went shopping for white shirts and set the date for December 31st at 3:30pm.
When we got to the beach we were met with friends who were there to take our pictures. My friend, Carly, asked me to go with her back up the beach to help carry down all the camera equipment. When we got there I didn't see a camera man or equipment. When I turned around to look again, Landon was standing there with a bouquet of red roses. I was shocked! He was supposed to be in Georgia with his friend for New Years. It was an exciting surprise! All I could think was, "Yay! Our first New Years together!" ...I had no idea what was going to happen next.
We walked back down to the beach so I could tell my family the exiting news that Landon had come to visit. As we walked down the beach toward my family Landon said, "Let's go put those flowers under the pavilion before we go take pictures." Well, that made sense to me so we walked up to the pavilion. I was met with a beautifully decorated table covered with rose petals, chocolate covered strawberries, his Bible, some scripture verses, and pictures of the two of us from the past two years.
We sat down at the table together and we talked for a few minutes. (I'll leave out the conversation and keep it between Landon and I...but I will tell you he is just the sweetest person I know.) He then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so excited, of course I said, "YES!" I was so overwhelmed with emotion; all I could do was hug him. Then he opened the ring box and I was again in amazement. The ring was more than I expected and the prettiest, sparkliest thing I had ever seen. It was absolutely perfect for me. He put it on my finger and I couldn't stop looking at it. When I finally looked up I saw both of our families walking towards us. We all hugged and celebrated and spend the next hour taking pictures. I couldn't stop smiling and hugging Landon. :)
He did such a good job! I was completely surprised, my family was all in on it, it was on the beach where we started dating, the ring was perfect, and I get to marry my very best friend!
Here are a few...
This is the table that was set up for the engagement. The verse in the frame says, "My beloved speaks and says to me; "Arise; my love, my beautiful one, and come away."' Song of Solomon 2:10
Landon read 1 John 4:7-21 to me and said it would be the theme of our engagement and marriage. Our goal is to love Christ first and then love each other because of Christ love.
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
Here is a picture of the ring. I couldn't really get a good shot of it, but it is a solitaire with 6 prongs and high setting with one diamond on the front and one on the back. The band has 5 diamonds on each side and the solitaire. It is beautiful! I love it! I will gladly wear it for the rest of my life. :)
2011 is going to be a great year!
