Fourth Year of Teaching!

So, this is my fourth year of teaching fourth grade at ECCS. I absolutely love my class!

I know I say that every year but the combination of my fourth year of teaching, second year of marriage, tied all together with some great kids and parents make this year a blast! After 11 weeks of school I can honestly say that I'm still excited to go to school each morning.

We have already read, Beorn the Proud, Adam of the Road, and are about to finish Beowulf!
We have papier-mâchéd Grendel's monster arm and designed our own monster defeating swords. These kids are so excited each day when we get to literature because we have so much fun with this book. :) Makes a teacher happy.

They have performed amazingly for their grandparents at Grandparents day. They sang the 5 hymns of the 5 branches of military, recited Ephesians 6:10-20, and a poem about honoring those who have served our country. I am really sad to say that I forgot to video tape it. I might just have to get the kids in the sanctuary to record it so I have it forever! It was amazing!

We are about to start preparing for Christmas so I'm going through all my Christmas CD's and trying to figure out my favorite songs for them to preform.

I'm also teaching ballet again this year after school and I even started a jazz class! I have 10 girls in ballet and 8 girls in jazz. Last year I had 7 girls. So we are growing! I'm so excited to see what the Lord is going to do with this small dance program. I pray that it grows to a program like Many but One some day. I have very sweet girls and I enjoy my time with them each week.

I found a few things on Pinterest to help me get ready for Thanksgiving. I'm going to make a Thankful banner for my door tomorrow and see if it looks good.

I need to go get ready for bed now. I am definitely a better teacher when I get enough sleep.

Want to be a good teacher? Tip 1: Get enough sleep each night.

Ministry to Children

Ministry to Children

I just love this website called, Ministry to Children. They have so many cute lessons, activities, coloring sheets, games, etc. to do in the the classroom. It is really great for Sunday School, school, or just moms looking for some Bible activities. I'm using some of the Easter coloring sheets this week to review the Easter story with my students. It is a story that we have all heard so many times but never should we become callous to it. It is more than just a story or a holiday but it is the TRUTH. It's the reason I do what I do every day. It's the reason I have a reason.

I love how the simple picture below teaches the truth of the gospel. We have been memorizing catechism, the Nicene Creed, and many different scriptures that will help the students recognize the meaning of each "T-Shirt" listed below. We are studying the reformation right now and discussing how people were willing to die for their faith and talking about how we need to learn to share our faith with others.

If you click the header at the top of the post you can go and check out the website for yourself. You can see all the great things they have to offer. If you have something wonderful to add to the website you can do that too! :)

Hope you are having a wonderful Easter week.

Shields

A few weeks ago I gave my students a wooden shield and asked them to either design their own crest or research their family crest and recreate it. After a few weeks of hard work the students brought in their shields and wrote papers to explain all that they did.

Each color and shape represents something about them.

They really did a great job and I received some amazing creating writing papers.

Medieval Feast

Click the image to view the video of their dance. :)

After all the anticipation for the Medieval Feast it finally arrived. The students had the best time! I dressed up in a Medieval dress too! Oh what I wouldn’t do for some sweet little fourth graders. J

I wanted to attach a file of my students performing their Medieval Dance that I taught them. The was performed in the candle light of the medieval feast but we also performed it at the end with lights on so all the parents (and teachers) could get a better video of it. The boys acted like little gentlemanly knights, and the girls acted like little polite princess. They had a ball!

Speaking of “having a ball” the room was decorated beautifully. The students felt like they were at a ball fit for a queen!

Speaking of the “queen” Her Royal Highness was at the event that night. She reminded all the students the correct procedures all night. Some of them were quite scared of her when she ordered a commoner to have his head cut off.

The upper school students at school came and walked around the feast as commoners, minsterels, jesters, and the queen’s servents. We are so thankful to the highschool students who are willing to spend their evening performing for the 4th graders. This really makes the evening more authentic and special.

The Upper school students also performed a small play for the kids—The Fatal Quest. It is a Medieval comedy that is perfect humor for 4th grade. Overly dramatic silly humor! Okay…well…the parents and teachers laugh just as hard, if not harder, that the children. It is great fun!

Well, the Medieval Feast was a complete success. All the glory goes to God!

Looking forward to another event next year! But for now…I need a nap.
